  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
50' CONV -Series III (1990 - present)
I have a 1994 Hatteras 50 convertible. It has the Glenn Denning. I am going to replace the three wire power cord with a new Glenn Denning 75 foot. My problem is the original cord comes out of the tub at the bottom and goes up and over to the AC panel Way too much work to try and run the new cord up to the panel so want to cut the cord outside the tub and make the connection there what should I use at that connection? Would A new male and female Hubble work or what else question

How long is the run between the tub and the panel?

Over 8’ (or is it 10’) and ABYC “requires” a breaker. That could be an option if you have access.

Otherwise I would use a heavy duty terminal block

Is that 8 or 10 feet counted from the cable inlet thru the hull?
I have argued with some surveyors over this.
Somewhere buried in ABYC E-11 is the spec. I'll try to find it later.

I have always counted from the first connect or splice.
So, if the original un-cut cable goes rite thru the boat, in/out the tub and to the main panel breaker, IMO a service breaker is not required.
But, if his first cable is cut and spliced to over 8 feet away (wire length) from the main panel breaker, A service breaker is to be installed.

Either way, if your not going to replace the whole length, a sealed box and terminal connect will be used.
Going that far, and help keep all future arguments down; make that box a service breaker box.

And if not already installed (or have an isolation transformer) consider adding an galvanic isolator.

If I cut the wire outside the tub, it would be approximate Lee 15 feet to the panel in the boat so where would I buy a service panel that I could mount outside the tub thanks for your help

Bad idea. The yellow cable is only supposed to be run to the first breaker. Making a joiner would be an issue insurance and safety wise.

There's more to this than meets the eye. Not to mention if your already in there bring it up to the current safety standards.

Email me at Boatsb@cfl.rr.com and I can get you back on target. This isn't rocket surgery but there are certain points others aren't paying attention to.
