This is the lowest price I've ever seen for a 53' Hatteras Convertible: $39,000
It is at:ad the w's to spacecoast.craigslist.org/boa/1535161246.html

That boat is a GIVEAWAY in the $30's! I bet it doesn't last very long!

Nigerian scam artist?

OMG, if the engines had truly been majored, in any sense of the word, would not that alone have been in the $70k range. Of course, if it is a salty, then maybe it is less pristine that what we expect on the Great Lakes. I couldn't afford to run it anywhere at cruise speed, but you sure could get there when you wanted to. Otherwise, quite a price.

Now show us a similar vintage 53'MY or CPMY from the Great Lakes at a similar price with recent majors, and find would what a nano-second response time offer looks like.

Or perhaps it's a pissed off spouse getting even for an indiscretion or pending divorce. I've seen a boat like this one with those out of place fridges before. As I recall it was at $99k awhile back.

Surely it's not a salty as any honest seller would put that in the ad, right??

The convertible market is still hurting bad. Sure if this were a motoryacht it would be gone but even so, I think that it really doesn't matter how "salty" or rough the boat is since it is priced in the $30's. If it runs, floats, the genny powers the boat and the A/C's keep the boat cool it's one hell of a deal at anything in the $30's. A buyer could bring it straight to a good yard and spend $50k on a complete paint job and have a new-looking boat for an investment somewhere in the $80's! WOW.

Ummm... shouldn't you be pointing out that this thread was posted in the wrong place? :)

Let's see, "That boat is a GIVEAWAY in the $30's!", but you would invest $50K in a paint job alone as to have a "new-looking" boat for somewhere in the $80's, yet Al's boat isn't a giveaway at $99K being turn key and a two owner boat with a flawless history, recent survey, lots up updates, and no issues. I really do hope this was a set-up to get me to respond, or you really have lost it.

Thanks for fixing the link. Now I'm really confused at Byron's comment that it would be prudent to put a $50K paint job on an ill-equipped boat that belonged to a drug runner and consider it a giveaway to have $80K+ in it when Al's can be had for $99K.

Sure, Al is a personal friend, but it would be a no brainer to me as to which would represent the better bargain.

You edited while I was typing. AFAIK Al's paint is original, just like the boat, but it shines like a new penny.

The reason for this thread being posted here was not to advertise someone else's boat. It was surprising to me to see the price asked for a 53C. If I knew the person offering the boat for sale I might post it in the For Sale section and promote it like Sparky does for his friend Al. I'm surprised that Al's boat hasn't sold yet.

I was just messing with Byron there Thom.

Has anyone spoken to the seller? The area code is not a local number here, and that picture isn't of any nearby waterways that I know of. Just curious.......

Hey Randy, you sure did bite good on that one! You may even have swallowed the hook! Now, keep looking around the site and see what else I have set up for you.....LOL.

Now, About Al's boat....I sent him a PM because my friend finally did ask me to take a look at it when I have time to do so as I just arrived back in Ft. Lauderdale today and should be here for a few weeks.

I must admit though, I can't wait to see in person a 30+ yr old original paint job that shines like a new penny. Also, do you know how many hours are on the mains in Al's boat?

Area code is Mississippi.

Spacecoast is Northeast shore of FL.

As someone who is always shopping for the screaming deals - this one scares me bit. As stated many times, some boats- even if free, are not good deals.

I have to agree with Sparkster, Al's boat at 99k maybe more promising.

Still, seeing these grand old ladies offered for such a low price does make you think. I wonder why this boat is not just donated. I bet you could get it appraised at 100. If the owner is in the 39% tax bracket he's done with no muss or fuss.

The top federal income tax rate is 35%, but I get your point.

Donation is not what it used to be. The donor can only write off what the charity actually gets for it and not until the charity actually does sell it. The days of appraisal for tax deduction are long gone.
