  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
I want to thank all on this site you have given me a lot of great info. Bought a 53 Motor Yacht about 6 months ago and am totally involved with a major refit. Love the boat, engines are strong but cosmetically it was a wreck. Have seen 7 53's in town (San Diego) and have been on 4 of them all going through major rehabs. I saw Ohana out of the water today, what a great looking boat. If any one needs a boat previewed in San Diego for purchase let me know, I am a licensed marine surveyor and would be happy to give a free opinion. John

Hi John,

Welcome!

I am glad to see another Hatt guy out west.

My boat was in SD most of 2013 during the purchase process at Sunroad on Harbor Island (Emerald Pacific).

Sounds like Dave had Ohana out a little early...

DAN

We bought ours in Long Beach about 14 months ago and motored her up to the Bay Area. You will love the 53. Welcome Scarlett.

Hello John, I too bought a 53 my recently I love the boat. And like you I will be doing a refit. I would enjoy seeing photos of your refit progress. As I'm sure many others here will to. This forum is great. Pete.

Hi John,

I'm in the process of being a new Hatt owner and will be berthing her in San Diego. We should meet up :) I will have Colina in San Diego by the 4th of July. Ron

I know that boat. I looked at it for a forum member named Douglas. Funny I go to your area and buy one and you come to my home town to buy yours. You will have fun with her.

Congrats Scarlett! Please post some pix. Although it will consume all of your life savings...few things in life are more rewarding than restoring a beautiful old boat. Best Wishes.

I previewed that boat before I bought the Hatteras I have now. I would list it in average to below average condition. When I was on her there was some sort of engine work being done. My broker didn't bother to find out what type as I wasn't interested once I boarded her but you could see the turbos off of the engines. I think the boat is now being kept at Sunroad Marina.

Have not seen the 58 in San Diego, but I do know the broker who has it listed, could take a look if you want,John

Thanks. I expect to be in sandiego myself in a few weeks I'll try to see it then It's more a curiosity for me right now I won't have the money to do anything for another year and I'd expect it to sell before then
