  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
58' MOTOR YACHT-Series I (1977 - 1980)
Looks like it's destined for the West Coast.

I'm looking at the size of the guy on the bridge. I wonder what it's like to run a boat from the middle of something like an Olympic swimming pool. Good looking ride though.

It's big but not that big. I think that guy is on land not the bridge

5 footitis. It's a sweet looking ride. Seems big enough to live on. Enclose the bridge and it has more Sq foot IL under air than my house

Said the guy with the 65....

It could be. But the guy in the cockpit is definitely in the cockpit and he doesn't look bigger than the guy who may be on the bridge.

I was at the helm of a 54 and it didn't feel significantly bigger than my 36. I'm sure it would feel different if I was actually at the helm of the 70. But it sure looks like the corners are a long way away.

What guy? there's someone on the bridge? :)

However big the guys look doesn't matter....what matters is that is probably one of the best looking boats around... Congratulations Hatteras......

You'd be surprised, it may look long at first but as soon as you leave the dock it all becomes relative and the size seems normal. I always prefered to dock a larger boat, so long as you know what your doing and remain in control, it's actually easier. Wind, current and people moving around have much Less effect the larger the boat gets. Also when backing up, a longer boat backs straighter with less chance of the bow trying to swing sideways.

If a slip size, or side to dock are equal percentage wise to the boat you trying to sqeeze in there, I'd alway prefer to dock the larger boat. To me it's easier to put a 70ft boat into a 75ft spot then 36ft boat into a 41ft spot.

I do know what you mean though, they do look big when you first walk up to, or step aboard, but that goes away and they shrink up pretty quick, especially offshore, everything get small.

The boat does look great though. I wonder if they have an option or would build one with an aft deck and lower Cockpit Tackle Center/Freezers like the old 70C from 1997 through 2004 instead of the stand alone Mezz Seating? I always liked that Shaded Aft Deck. Gives you elevated seating, while keeping you out of the crews way in the cockpit.

I'm surprised to see a bow rail and anchor, seems like the buyers of these don't ever anchor them, only dock them where it's calm.

The difference in size between a 54C and that 70GT is greater than the difference between your 36C and a 54C. I often say I'd like to downsize to a 60C II. Most people laugh and say not much of a down size but if you look at the two boats the 65C is massive compared to a 60C. That 70GT is a big boat. It's got 3ft more beam than mine.

Not on the west coast. If you actually want to USE the boat it generally means going south where there aren't any marinas.
