  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
I am having to change my 12kw Kilopak for a new Phasor on my 53 my
The Kilopak went down through the foreword stateroom hatch An A frame plank and comealong were used to get it into position
under the galley floor
It is being proposed to cut a hole in the deck above the galley and crane the old genny out and drop the new one in
Obviously restoring the deck afterwards
Any thoughts appreciated
Ian W. 1981 53 my

I cut a hole in the deck above the generator room and remove both of our old gens and put in my new Phasor. I then installed a hatch in the hole which we love because it gives so much more lite and air to the galley

My 12.5 kw Phasor came down the forward hatch with only the molding being removed.

why not go up the stairs and out the side or back door? thats how i got my old 15 kw westerbeke out

Usually on the 53MY and cousins the gen can come up the stairs to the salon. Some plywood with reinforcement or better a set of rollers like in the picture. Pull the table, set up a frame to lift it and slide it over. Then more rollers in the salon. I m pretty sure they can be rented. Easier than cutting the headliner, the hole etc

I replaced my 20kw Onan with a new 15kw and the old came up and out the back door and the new went back in the same way. No need to cut anything.

Sky how did it go up the stairs
Presumably lifted out with an A frame from under the galley
