  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
I just splashed my boat yesterday after weeks in the yard getting a new bottom job.
Once she wqs back in the water, I happened to walk past the lift and saw about 10 inches of my new bottom paint stuck to the slings.

not happy as that means I got no pint in a section or 2.

Anything that can be done.

We always applied was paper between the slings and hull.
Always figured that was SOP.

Have you discussed anything with the sling manager?

Thanks
I did and he said it appears to have slipped out during the trip to the launch pit.

My yard uses plastic sleeves made to slip over the slings. Looks like a clear trash bag but is more of a tube sized for sliding over the slings.

Unfortunately I only saw the sling after it was splashed and they said they would haul it and block it again and charge me for it.
I guess I am going to have a damaged paint spot on my hull.

Update your diver to pay this area attention and watch it.
Also not scrubbing on it to hard here.

Yeah, because that square foot is going to be the real performance killer.

Every yard I've ever been to has slapped paint on where the blocks were when they lifted the boat. Is that stuff going to last? F- no! Drive the boat occasionally, or take a quick swim with a brush once in a while.

My old slow 53MY....

performance is the last thing I worried about. I guess more water being sucked into the hull or blisters is more of my concern with the growth we get here in Florida's west coast

That's reasonable.

Maybe also look to address those issues with a proper blister repair and barrier coat. Bottom paint is only bottom paint. Anti-fouling protection, if it's even that.

It depends on where it is on the hull. What the yard guy ought to have done was to do a quick haul and hang and paint that area. It wouldn't have cost them hardly anything and the goodwill would be worth it. I'd have a diver keep an eye on it, it may benefit from an area affect from the paint around it, if the section is not too big.
