  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
54' MOTOR YACHT (1985 - 1988)
The original Galley Maid 32V salt water wash-down pump was removed by the PO. It probably broke down, and since he didn't anchor out much, decided he didn't need to replace it. I, on the other hand, like to anchor out and want something to use to wash down the anchor and chain as it's being retrieved. All the plumbing, sea cock, strainer and the deck fitting are still there. Just the pump is gone.

Has anyone done this project with a pump less pricey and complicated than the Galley Maid at $350? Flo Jet and Jabsco both make 32V pumps for around $150 that seem like they would work, but I would like to get some feedback from others who have done this project.

Thanks

I've had a Flojet 32v washdown pump on our 53 for several years - no complaints and plenty of pressure.

I have the largest SurFlo and find it to be wimpy in real mud. Wish it was a 110V well pump.

I don't think Shurflo makes a 32 volt. I have a 24 volt Extreme Blaster that rips thick, sticky mud off all day. When we have plenty of fresh water, I do use the 240v well pump, but I can't say it is any more powerful than the Shurflo. You just want to make sure you have something designed for salt water. A good idea is to call Depco and see what they recommend; very knowledgeable and won't try to "sell" you anything. Decent prices and great service to boot.

Raz Marine in Fort Lauderdale may have a rebuilt Galley Maid; I know they sell Flojet stuff too, likely more pricey than Depco, but also great service.

I've got a 32v sureflow for my SW washdown pump I bought a 3.5 GPM which I think is the largest one. We use it in the cockpit for washing down while fishing. During sailfish season we fish live bait and I hook the pump up to the live well and it runs 24/7 I think I got about 5 years out of the last one. Before that I had a Jabsco water puppy which was a major PITA. Flowjet makes them too I keep a backup on the boat. @ $150/ dozen for goggleye in season pumps are cheap.

Thanks Mike, Bob, George and RS. Looks like I have some options.

Bill,
I have a Shurflo and it is nothing like the GM. Airpilot has the GM washdown on his boat and it has at least twice the volume and pressure of the Shurflo. My recommendation is to have that GM pump rebuilt.

The pump is missing... get a shallow well pump from Sears for $100. That puppy will give you a 1-1/2 column of water that will knock the crap outa that crap...especially if necked down to a 5/8 garden hose ! ws

I'll second that. PO put in a new Galley Maid pump and it is great. If it ever dies, I'd go with the shallow well pump. Much cheaper and much more powerful. There was a thread here about a newer 60C that had one that was used for wash down and as a circulating pump for the live well.

Bill/Jack/Sky:

Thanks. I'll take a look at the shallow well pumps.
