  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
65' MOTOR YACHT (1988 - 1996)
I am getting ready to do some major work on the upper aft deck, going to extend it about 16". I well need one peace 4+ft. long or two pieces 2+ft. long. needs to be straight not from the bow. Can be unfinished we are striping all the railings and refinishing. The boat is a 1988 but don't think it matters.

I have a buddy that may have some. I'll check this weekend and if he does I'll let you know. Your remodel sounds interesting. Can you please post before and after shots. Thanks in advance.

Find a good wood shop and have it made. You may have to pay to have a shaper knife ground if they don't already have the correct profile, but you'll have new rails the correct dimension instead of rails sanded over the years smaller than the end fittings.

The wood rails on the 1971 53 next to us in storage are smaller diameter than our 1985. So the year may matter.

A couple of two foot straight sections should be easy enough to make up by hand using a table saw, plane and belt sander in that order if getting a custom shaper blade is too pricey. Or, you could consider making just the new section out of SS tube if it would blend OK just like the transition from wood to stainless at the pulpit.

Thanks I appreciate it. We are repainting from top to bottom. I took some pics yesterday. We are going to extend the space under the upper aft deck for storage and install a ice maker. This was all added back in the 90's and was done in (top half) fiberglass and (bottom half) plywood with a coat of resin, gelcoat and paint not good. It is starting to rot. We also found that the upper deck slopes to the bow of the boat!! I well try to post as we go.DSCF3247.webpDSCF3256.webp

Have made them before just hoping I could find some in fair shape. One less thing to do and trying to save a little time.

Thanks for the info.
