I am adding new petcock/drains to the bottom on my racor fuel filter plastic bowls. The petcocks look to be brass. I need a recommendation for what brand of goop to put on the threads that will be diesel proof and allow me to remove in the future if needed.

Thanks!

John, I found that I didn't need to use anything to seal up the filter bowls. Mine are pretty old, but they simply don't leak. I 've had them apart several times in the past couple of years for cleaning and have never had a problem with leaks, drips, etc. after I put them back together. If you find that you really want to use a sealant, I've had good success with a product called "SealsAll". It comes in a yellow tube and you can pick it up at any hardware store. There are two types. Make sure you get the one for fuels.

That fitting does not seal on the threads. There is a fiber washer that goes between the bowl and the fitting.

Brian is correct. Those are special petcocks that have straight thread not pipe thread. If you try and use pipe thread type petcocks you can (make that read will ) split the plastic bowls open when you tighten them.

I got em from Racor, they should work. However, I will be careful. Thanks for the heads up. Now that Friday has arrived, its bottoms up!

FYI For Racor owners. Over time the plastic bowls get brittle you should carry spare bowls.

Plus the new bowls have the drain valve built in!
