Not really boating related but I was wondering if any HOF member is down around the Atlanta GA are that can look at a car for me? Looking for a new toy for the summer and found a Porsche Cayman down in GA. The dealer sent several pictures but there is nothing better that viewing in person and I'm not a big fan of used car salesman and how they depict a car condiction. The car is actually in Decatur just outside Atlanta. If anybody is down in that area and wants to take a look so I can get a true idea I would appreciate it, thanks

Chris, have you contacted a Porsche dealer in that area? sometimes they do will a PPI for you and check for recalls, etc, usually it's a couple of hours at their shop rate, a bit more if a road test is included. Well worth it. They will also be able to pull up Porsche service history on the car.

Jim, Ellis Porsche just did a service on the car in March per the car fax. I was going to give them a call this morning to see what was done and if any issues were noted. Car fax is pretty much useless when it comes to detail on service history. They won't certify the car because it's being sold by a BMW dealer.

I just got back from winter cruising and have to go out of town Friday for a wedding. I might be able to see it before the end of the week, but would definitely be able to get to it early next week if that is not too late.

That would be great Greg! I'll send you a PM

Car Fax is pretty much useless if it turns up nothing. Autochek is slightly better, but neither are very reliable. This is why used car dealers love CF- there are plenty of ways around it.

I urge you to look closely and if possible , buy from a Porsche dealer and if lucky, get a certified. I shopped for a year to get a certified BMW just to get the warranty. The cost of service and repair for BMW, Porsche, Mercedes can be major. Good luck.

BTW, if that Porsche is at United BMW in Atlanta, they are good to deal with if all else fails.

X2 on buying a certified pre owned vehicle. I have bought several new Mercedes over the years. This time around I went CPO (plus I paid additional warranty on top of that). Thank god I did... After the CPO process and supposedly delivering to me a "perfect CPO car", they have since fixed/ replaced in the first 90 days of ownership:
- 2 paint scratches
- all 4 air shocks and sensors (big $$$ otherwise)
- 1 rim
- 2 tires (okay, 1 was my fault, but it was low on tread and they replaced it)
- windshield washer system

I might go CPO again, but I will NEVER go pre owned without CPO. It has only cost me time for drop off and deliveries to the dealership. It could have been much worse. Pay a little extra for the CPO. It's well worth it in my mind.

Yup I completing agree! Had two Mercedes in the past ( SL600 and E350)both used but still under factory warranty, sold both with a little bit of factory warranty left which was a good sales point. I am a little nervous about this car and trying to negotiate a price that is reflective of a non-certified porsche. After a few phone calls back and forth it appears as if this car is not going to happen. I have now limited my search to strictly Porsche dealers CPO. There is two out there that I have narrowed it down two and they are 4-5k more to get piece of mind, just might be worth it!

I have owned many new Mercedes vehicles and also many CPO Mercedes over that last 20 years. I have never had a warranty problem ever. The CPO warranty is like a license to steal for the dealer as they know they will get paid for any repair they perform under that plan. I have even had some admittedly borderline repairs that got covered. IMHO it's a no-brainer on any expensive used car.

I guess I'm a gambler. I'll never pay for extended warranties of any kind on anything. I figure I've saved enough over the years to buy that new Mercedes(but I won't). To each his own.
