USCG documented vessels in NC are now required to get a State registration too. That's another change to the state's requirements.

They are catching up with Florida on USCG registration. Even with FL cost, it's substantially cheaper than if I kept the boat here in GA. Ga taxes a boat like a house and it is very expensive on bigger boats. Evening paying FL insurance rates, I come out cheaper.

It is amazing the difference in insurance between Ga and Fla.... LUCKILY my insurance company 'agreed' to give me the cheaper rates as I'm less than 1/4th mile from the Ga border.....

If you shop insurance you'll find many insurer's use Jacksonville as the dividing line so you should be able to get the much lower northern rates.

That's how I got the cheaper insurance since I'm in Jacksonville at the Marina at Ortega Landing near Huckins. I talked directly with the underwriter at ACE and he agreed. I explained that I could be at the boat in 30 minutes since I live on the GA-FL line and provided a detailed hurricane plan.

they want to start collecting tax on the all boats. This is just the first stept now they can find where to send the bill
just send more money to the state then the county will follow so you get stroked 2 times.
