One word, unbelievable!
I picked up a new iPhone yesterday as my old one was giving me problems. It's the new 3G S version which is pretty nifty on its own, but for $6.99 I purchased from Navionics a chartplotter application which is, again, unbelievable.
I've just downloaded it onto my phone and am playing with it at the office, but this thing has it all. Every nav aid, every marina (complete with phone numbers), and more functions than I've seen on any chartplotter in terms of calculating time, distance, and fuel requirements. I purchased the central US version and it even shows detail of the Tenn-Tom, something my Garmin 2210 won't do with its preloaded charts.
How it works onboard is yet to be seen, but even if it just gives me all these charts it's well worth the investment for the Navionics app AND the phone. As I understand it, there were some glitches with the 3.0 version I bought, but an updated version is due out soon. I can't imagine it being any better than what I'm seeing at this point.
