Jeff ... I'm looking to buy an android tablet with built-in GPS to use for charts rather than a Windows or Mac based tablet computer. Will all these apps work on an andriod tablet? Thanks.

No reason why they shouldn't. I'm using a Droid Thunderbolt PDA, but if the tablet has GPS, it should operate exactly the same.

Jeff ... I bought an Acer Iconia A500 tablet with Android 3.1 and GPS ... the newest from Acer. I went to the App Marketplace to purchase the Navionics map app and a message came up saying that the device wasn't approved for the App. I wrote Navionics and they said that the Acer hadn't been tested by them and was therefore not recommended. The only tablet with Android that they had tested was the Samsung Galaxy GT-P1000. They concluded with "you download the App at your own risk". How did you get the App to install on your tablet? Also sent you a PM. Thanks.
Tom

Driving to the boat, so tjis may have typos.

Your Acer is running Android and you shouldn't have a problem. Their software supports Android and as such, should run on any hardware with this software.

I spoken with a lot of people running different PDA's and tablets. None have had a problem. I'm not familiar with 3.1, but haven't heard about any major upgrades that were planned. I'll stick by my comment that it should work just fine.

You mentioned its giving you a message. Will it still allow you to download the software?

Jeff
The App Marketplace is giving the message that the App isn't approved for the device. Tonight I'm just going to purchase the App and then see if it will install. Will keep you posted. Thanks for your help!!

So Jeff

Your running the Navionics app how do you like it?

Went to buy it for the phone and started reading the reviews some Like some say its bad?
But seems like most reviews go that way.

Thanks Dan

The Navionics app being run on my Verizon Thunderbolt Android pda is great. I use it for quick planning when travelling, as a third back-up on the boat and just general messing around when not on the boat. It's quick, easy and very accurate. It also has a nice radar and tide map overlay that works very well.

Jeff, is the android with the Navionics app working off a satelite or is it getting the signal from a tower. I have an I-Phone and the land based GPS operates off tower signals. Is the navionics marine app different???

Q. How do the Android phones calculate my position?
A. The Android phone calculates your position using its internal GPS, as well as any additional available signals i.e. Wi-Fi and/or cell signals. The Navionics Mobile app does not require Wi-Fi nor cell signals to function. Only a GPS signal is required to determine your location.

Q. Do I need to have cellular coverage to use the GPS function?
A. With the Android phones, location technology is built into the device. Your approximate location is determined using available information from cellular network data, local Wi-Fi networks (if you have Wi-Fi turned on), and GPS (GPS not available in all locations). Once you have downloaded Navionics Mobile applications to your Android phone, they are resident on your device and are a reliable tool to access charts even when not in cell range.

This site should answer everyone's questions:

There is also a link on this site for iPhone/iPad/Apple devices.
