Hatteras Model
53' EXTENDED DECKHOUSE (1983 - 1988)
My pins got left in after a seal service, and I missed that because I was in a hurry. My fault. Got in a seaway and had a rough ride. It may not be relevant, but the bulb(s) no longer come on either. Now I'm going through a thorough check, and my pressure on the lower big gauge is only 800. My recollection was 12 noon, or 1000+. When the unit is on with the engines running the upper small gauge shows 200. When it is in Center mode the upper gauge shows 0 like it should.

At the suggestion of the yard that apologized for leaving the pins in, I disconnected P2 and moved the actuator about 10x since they thought that 800 was too low. No change.

Thanks in advance for any helpful suggestions.

System pressure should be 1000psi(lower gauge). The gyro pressure(upper gauge) should be between 400-600psi and is adjustable with the needle valve on the gyro. More pressure equates to a quicker response. Adjust based on feel. If the boat seems to wiggle or jar back and forth, then lower the pressure. If response seems slow, then increase.

The problem I see with yours is the system pressure. It sounds like you may have a weak pump or a plugged filter. I think if it were mine, I would first change oil and filter and go from there.

The NAIAD folks are very helpful. Worth a call to get advice from the source.

Thanks Guys. Will likely do both and advise.

Update. Naiad tech called me back, and WOW!!!!!!

What service. It took me 10 minutes to get the relief valve out and cleaned. Pressure came right up,to 1200+ on the system and 400 on the gyro. He said straight weight 40 oil is fine, as long as you stay in a warm climate. 10/40 recommended in colder climates for all weather use.

Thanks guys. Momma doesn't like it when any boat rolls.
