  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
60' MOTOR YACHT (1987 - 1989)
In the survey phase of purchasing a 1989 Hatteras 60MY. The question came up about stab fin clearance when we were talking about her new winter home. We will be up against a concrete wall with piling between us and the wall on the New River in FLL. Should I be concerned about the fins hitting the wall? I don’t know the size of the fins but my guess is they are OEM so what would have been standard in the day is what they might be. Is that enough info?

On my 63' the Niad 252 fins are about 18 inches inboard from the hull chine. I wouldn't worry about being side tied to a seawall. Just pin them when tied up.

Figured we would good but wanted to ask. We weren’t planning on a boat in south Florida this soon so we have a whole new set of issues to think of. Any advice on side tying to sea wall in a river with a tide?

The rub rail and top of the hull stick out quite a ways compared to the waterline. There is no way you would ever hit a fin on a wall. You also do not need to pin them. They are probably 6sq ft fins and would barely stick out from the side at hard over.
