  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
40' DOUBLE CABIN-Series I (1986 - 1989)
The sheraton in New Bern has just sent a letter to us jacking the rates up from 6.90 per foot to 12.00 per foot effective immediatly! Well I thought we had a pretty good deal here until this. Must be all us transplanted Yankee's gettin into the business down here. Need to close the GATES!!

I think you may have hit upon the real reason for global warming! As you Yanks move south it causes more weight to be along the equitorial region. As more weight is amassed at the equator it causes more of an "Equitorial Bulge" which gets closer to the sun, which makes everything hotter. My great grand pap said you Yanks were up to no good when you started carpet bagging.

Damn yanks, they piss me off!

STATES' RIGHTS!!!!!!!!

Wait till you get to $25 dollars a foot. Plus elec. That will get your attention!

What are you guys crying about ? Up here on eastern Long Island the summer dockage rate is bordering on 200.00 per foot. Think about that when you hear about a glut in the used boat market . Bruce PS: The Town owned dock that has a years long waiting list charges 75.00 per foot.

200/ftX60'=$12,000/month Uh, NO THANKS?

Thats for the season Tod. Not a bad response though. Usually about 9 months on LI. Then you pay another fee for winter storage.

Ha! Is that per month or per year? Wow $12,000 a month? Thats kinda steep! Hahaha...

Its 12.00 per foot per month! Translates into 144.00 per foot per year. Almost as expensive as N.J.!

The Marina at the Sheraton looks nice.

Seems the prices are getting in line with other nice areas such as Wilmington and Carolina Beach.

WOW!
I couldn't afford to be in boating on the East Coast or Gulf.. Berth rents, going on hard, hurricane related insurance costs, etc. Since my boat is kept at my dock behind the house, berth rent is included in the mortgage. Even here in the San Francisco Bay area it's got to be less than what you have to live with. I truly admire your dedication to your hobby.

we are paying around 8 dollar a foot for covered slips that are nice. 6 dollars for a normal slip in a nice marina in Clear Lake, Texas

Skip, be fare about it, at least it comes with free duck eggs!D:

Forgive me gents, I did not realize that your rates were per month . The 200.00 per foot rate is , as Scott says , for the boating season. After the season is over then you pay another 35/40.00 per foot for winter storage plus hauling, blocking, powerwashing the bottom and winterizing. So looking at that your cost on eastern LI is about 250/275.00 per foot per year. Then add in the almost 4.00 per gallon price of diesel and you are in business. Bruce

Hey Bruce, you really mean "you're almost out of business"!

Nick it depends on which side you are on. For the marina owner he is realy in business. For the poor boater...........

Skip,

It's really unfortunate the Sheraton has done this. I think they realized they now have a captive market as there is no place for you to go.

New Bern used to be a nice place before peolpe started moving here. Even the Canadian Geese stay here all year round now.

Yep but I just got the 2007 winter contract and the 2008 summer contract in the mail so I was only thinking of my poor side! Ughhhhh!

and I have been on the list for seasonal slips at the County owned marina for 5 years already and not enough people have "departed"!

Nick, as you know, I am somewhat immune to the dockage rates having the benefit of summering at my father's private dock. I am lucky too, in that one of my best customers owns a marina and gives me a great deal on winter storage as well. How are things over on the north fork? Thanks again for the wonderful weekend during the maritime festival and my best to your family.Bruce

Any of you "eastender" guys gonna be down in Fla for the Lauderdale Boat show ?
