I had a dockmate that was bleeding profusely from a small puncture in his calf.
I applied clotting powder to it and it shot through it like a water fountain.
I then taped a clotting sponge for larger wounds (about $15) that stopped it so he could go to the ER without drama.
I can only imaginne if A. We were offshore and/or B. I did not have the sponge.
A very good item to have for all !

Those clotting powders and sponges are a good idea if you are "away" and have no way to stop bleeding with direct pressure. I would bet the tape did the trick...direct pressure usually wins.
