Hatteras Model
45' CONVERTIBLE-Series I (1968 - 1975)
Does anyone know the fuel burn rate of the 65 conv. with the MTU_8V396 engines?

In as much as you have no feedback, a consevative starting place at a high cruise is .6 to .7 times the max horsepower in GPH. You can scale this down with lower power settings. You should not run out of fuel with this guestimate.

The Following is for Both motors (divide GPH by 2 if you want burn rate for just 1 motor)

800 RPM - 9 GPH
900 RPM - 13.5 GPH
1000 RPM - 15 GPH
1100 RPM - 20 GPH
1200 RPM - 24 GPH
1300 RPM - 30.8 GPH
1400 RPM - 38 GPH
1500 RPM - 48 GPH
1600 RPM - 57 GPH
1700 RPM - 66.5 GPH
1800 RPM - 80 GPH
1900 RPM - 94 GPH
2000 RPM - 113 GPH
2100 RPM - 134 GPH

This is a 15 year old thread, but what the heck :)

What’s the HP rating on these engines? That fuel burn seems very high for a 65 footer. The 16V2000s in the 116 I run burn about 110gph combined at 1900

I'm sure that guy that asked this question 15 years ago will be very pleased to finally have an answer.

If he has had to rebuild or repower by now I'm sure he is lighter in the pockets also!

Hopefully he wasn't holding his breath waiting for the answer.

Wonder what happened to the 65 in Maryland with the dead 396?

I remember that one, named Outrageous. Someone posted here a while back about it's sale and that new owner wanted to get it running again. No idea what happened. Just sad to see such a timeless classic not being used.

There is one just like that, abandoned in an anchorage here in PR. Story on this one is motors were taken apart for rebuild, owners ran into financial problems, boat was repo'd as it was, and has just sat around abandoned for years. Sad stories..
