Hatteras Model
53' EXTENDED DECKHOUSE (1983 - 1988)
Hi Guys:

I have a Dell laptop I want to mount on the "dash" in the pilothouse of our 53ED. I want a clean looking set up that will hold it in place. Nothing big or obtrusive. Anyone have any thoughts/suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

I've been looking for one for my truck for awhile....the good one's are expensive, and some of the expensive ones aren't good.

For the pilothouse, I think I'd use wood. A slightly inclined shelf, with fiddle rails to help hold the laptop in place, and a method of securing a strap or bungee across the laptop to hold it down. Depending on how far you want to go, the tray could also be hinged, offering some storage under it.

Wish I had a pic for you. I built one out of teak for a man who had limited space on a blow boat. It was a box, with a hinged lid. The whole unit was on sliders and a swivel.

I put some foam on the interior of the lid so when closed there was no shake/rattle and roll. This unit was held in place inside the box with a couple pieces of velcro on the bottom side of the laptop.

If you make a box as I did, you can incorporate cut outs for the various ports and wires so you can actually leave the laptop in place.

Check out Ram-Mount. They make a variety of mounts for all sorts of things. I've had one for years.

Another company is JottoDesk.com. Made for vehicles but you could probably adapt a mount for the boat. I'll sell mine if anyone is interested - haven't used it for a while (made to fit F series truck).
