Get your motors and alternators to a 3rd world country where they have the repair mentality and not the replace mentality we have in the US. When I ha d my business in Puerto Vallarta I started out repairing alternators for people but quickly realized that I would get a minimum of an hour plus parts into a repair. Back then we were charging $70.00 per hour. I found a guy downtown that could fix or even rebuild an alternator for $35.00 including most parts. Motors were the same including complete rewinding. Had a 12 volt water maker motor fail in Thailand. Company wanted $1200.00 for a new one, had it rebuilt for $30.00 in Phuket.

Not on a Hatteras but my 1981 Uniflite. Fan on Cruisair evaporator in front cabin always sounded bad, then one day 4 years ago it locked up. The unit was obviously installed as the boat was being built as I had to saw out plywood to get to it. I managed to remove the fan. Clearly printed on it is "oil every 6 months". I cleaned it and oiled it, and it has been running fine ever since. FYI-Was willing to spend money on a new motor, but that motor was obsoleted, and its replacement was also obsoleted.
