OK,. this issue seems to raise it's head only on the boat, all my mirrors are impossible to clean 100%, seems there is always a film of something that will not come off, so, I suspect the silvering on the back is shot due to high salt content in the surrounding air..??
any solution other than replace |??

Microfiber cloths clean better than anything. They clean alone or with windex or whatever. Our mirrors get pretty dirty real fast but the microfiber does much much better than cotton of paper towels. We actually use the computer screen cleaner with the microfiber. Old silvering you should be able to literally see deteriorating via black dots or disfiguring I would think.
I use micro fiber to pick up oil (other than oil absorbent cloths) and clean your greasy hands etc. don't wipe your face with them though because they will give you instant dry skin!

I think it is the silvering issue, they look ok except when the sun is on them and then it's pretty poor.

Opppssss see the pop ups are back

Mirrors are pretty inexpensive. Just replace them.

My head mirrors all cover medicine cabinets. Tell your mirror maker to put a hard sealant on the back of the glass over the silvering. Then they won't scratch when stuff falls against the backs and you open them. Ordinary mirrors don't have this problem since they just sit against a wall. Also have him grind the opening handles into the glass so they are cut in. There are cheap stick-on plastic handles but these don't last, especially if your hands are wet.

I just picked up 6 replacements for the cabinets in the mid and master stateroom heads. Less the $90 for all six and they canme with the film on the back to protect them from scratches. I have not yet decided on the type/ style pull I will attach. I like the idea of gringing a handle into them.
Fanfare do you have a picture of that.

I had the old plate (tempered) glass windows replaced on the Roamer with laminated safety glass
and could not grind the pull due to the laminations. Use a glue on pull to piss off the judges. Wait
till a pain gets sticky and you bust off a finger nail at the quick and ruin the whole day; or better
yet, the wife does it and ruins both yer days!
The grinding is done with a 5/8 or 3/4" wide wheel X 6-10" diameter running slow in coolant. Its
done in a fixture and would be almost impossible to do by hand... ws
