I had the pleasure of meeting Mike and his Hatteras yesterday. He was taking "Hattitude" down to Southport and stopped in to see us at Swan Point. Paul and I went out to catch lines and I went to catch the bow line and lo and behold, the First Mate was none other that "Tom Slane" of Slane Marine. Tom had just completed a redo on Mike's boat and one of the slickest paint jobs I have seen. It was stunning. The weather was sunny, windy and about 45 degrees. Mike took on fuel to feed the new Cummins engines and reported a new cruising speed of 22-23 knots.
Tom is living proof that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. It was exciting to get to see his work once again and to know that superior craftsmanship still exists. If anyone gets the chance to look up Mike at his new port it is worth the trip to see a classic Hatt that rivals anything made today.
I didn't have a camera handy while they were at the marina, so we will have to wait for Mike to post some pictures for us to drool over!
