  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
While anchoring yesterday my stbd. Engine locked in gear in reverse. Had to shut down the engine. I found a loose fitting on the hydraulic pump and tightened it. It felt like there was not enough resistance on the shifting lever. Unfortunately I did not think to check the tranny pressure gauge. I am on a raft up and won’t be able to test things again until Tomorrow. Any suggestions to check? Thanks

It felt like there was not enough resistance on the shifting lever.

Are you cable or Hynautic controlled?
You were not feeling resistance on the control lever??

Can you have someone move the shifter at the helm while to watch the shift lever for full travel? You don't need the engine running to do that. At least that might eliminate one thing.

Also dip the oil and see if there is any water in it. Only transmission failure I ever had was caused by a leaking cooler that filled it with salt water.

Manuel cables, do have full movement and good oil.
