A buddy of mine brought me some 3M 3000 grit polishing pads to play with. I could not imagine what I would ever use them for, but he said some people polish glass with them. I had very bad mineral and rust on my windshield so I gave it a try. These things are like a scotchbright pad with stuff on one side. They took 47 years of grim right off the glass like it was dust. I was so excited I was doing every piece of glass I could find. Then I turned it onto chrome and stainless steel. OMG!!! The pads are 5" round, and the stuff does fade, but I was polishing rusty SS tubing like wiping bugs off a windshield.
These things are sold by the box and not cheep, also the DA sander was a bit cumbersome and too fast, so I cut one of the pads into 2" circles and attached to my Dremel cleaning tool. perfect size for all the nooks and crannies, but the "stuff" kept wearing off. So I added some polishing compound to the mix and wholly ship!
