  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
52' COCKPIT MY (1990 - 1999)
I'm looking into installing a mechanical water temperature gauge (in the ER) on my 8V92TAs. I would appreciate advice on where to insert the temperature probe on the engine. Pictures would be very helpful.

See if this helps.

On the 92's there are ports on the front of the thermostat housings. You will see your electric temp sender in one of them. Pull a plug out of an unused port and put the temp bulb in there for the mechanical thermostat.

Clarksons pic is of a 71 so yours will be different.

You likely have 2. They kinda look like spark plugs tapped. On your port engine they are likely on the outboard side. Forward, outboard, above the alternator.

Sky, you're correct about mine being 71's. However, the picture shows the temp sender going into the water manifold (p/n 5101775). The 8V92 also uses a water manifold that is the same p/n 5101775.

The thermostat housings are also the same, both with threaded plugs.

We have 12V71s also. The pictures in post #2 are exactly like our mechanical temp installation.
One side of the engine goes to the helm, the other side of the engine sends to the fly bridge.

Just replaced the helm's gauges. Not brave enough to route new senders for the fly bridge.
