  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
42' LRC - Mark I (1976 - 1978)
Anyone on here familiar with the old Matlock Air Stabs. I have then on my newly acquired 42 LRC and got them working. According to previous owner, he never used them and owner before him did not either. Air stabilizers have not been used for 35 years.
I have no Owner's manual and no real idea what pressures they run at, or the oil they use. I can take a guess but does anyone on here actually know?
I would love to find a manual but the company has been out of business for 20 years.

Do you have some photos of the fin control gear or the Gyro? I have Gyro Gale, also pneumatic, I have maintained mine for 20 years, making most parts myself.

I am very knowledgeable on pneumatics and can do the same as far as making parts goes.. The Detroit's each have a compressor but neither were building pressure when the system was tried in sea trail. Upon getting into it there were numerous air leaks. The Bendix air dryer was spewing air all over and obviously had not been serviced in 45 years. I removed it and put in a large coalescing filter plus a new truck air dryer. I found a lot of desiccant downstream leading to the pressure tank and water in the pressure tank. I cleaned that out and found a big air leak in the line from the dryer to the pressure tank.
The system is 100% air operated and the air valve controls operate a regulator/valve from the pressure tank. That valve was inoperative and stuck open so I got that fixed. I did not find any desiccant in the last oiler/filter before the gyro so I figured I was good. I finally got it to fire up and pressure came up to 40 PSIG with 20 PSIG at the air control valve on the bridge. The gyro is quite loud and I don't know if that is normal.
The port fin activates when I rock the boat but the starboard fin is still sticky. The fin is harder to turn with a breaking bar than the port fin. I still have some work there and probably should pull it apart at the next haul out. What I don't know is weather 40 PSIG is about where things should be. The compressors appear regulated to the 40 PSIG pressure. I also don't know how the fins are sealed and what would make them stick.
Since I have no real idea what is normal I am asking that question in the thread.
I have some photos but not good photos and need to research how to load photos as the photos are all to large.
