  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
56' MOTOR YACHT (1981 - 1984)
The "Boss" has me asking this question. On our 56 Hatteras MY the master stateroom bed measures 56x80.A queen mattress is 60 x80 and an extra full is 54x80.Has anybody solved this problem? If so ,is there a place to get a mattress that fits or is memory foam yhe way to go? Thanks Chris

When it was time to replace the mattress on Passages, a custom shaped Tempor-pedic was used. Cost was about $1500.

Worked out well EXCEPT when ambient temperature dropped below 40 deg F. That material had a tendency to suck body heat right out of you and had slow shape recovery. Not a problem if you're a Florida boater but something to consider if your are North.

Club, there are a number of 'custom mattress makers' found in the back of most boating magazines or at the larger boat shows. Most have a simple process of making a template for your unique size-need and then you specify the thickness, material to be used, etc. I have spoken to several as this is a project I want to accomplish for one of the guest staterooms. I found talking to the manufacturers at the boat shows very helpful.

Here's where I had mine made, you can either have a rep come measure or they will send you a cardboard template kit.

Captain Coop had this done for his Hatteras, and I contacted the company that did it and had it done for mine. Great results. Unfortunately, I can't find the info on the company (in Richmond, VA) that made it...Lonnie, if you're watching, can you post it?

Thanks for the website, I'm building out a queen bed and will need this... like the PTs myself...

I was in this situation with my last boat...needing a new mattress, but I just couldn't bring myself to pay that kind of money for a custom mattress from a yacht outfitter. I submitted my measurements to a company called The Original Mattress Factory. They delivered my custom mattress for around $300, wrestled it into the stateroom, and hauled off my old mattress. It was a great mattress - very comfortable and very affordable. If you are located anywhere near one of their stores, you should check them out. Here are their locations: http://www.originalmattressfactory.com/locations.asp They do both foam and spring/coil mattresses.

Fortunately, the mattress I had to replace in my Hatt, the master, took a standard queen-sized mattress. :D

I bought a queen size for my 43 motoryacht, foolishly thinking that Mr. Hatteras had actually made the bed a queen. When the guys came to install it, I became painfully aware of my mistake. So I had them just bring a top quality double mattress, and had an upholster friend make up two triangular fillers which I duct taped in place. You can't tell the difference, it looks custom, and the Admiral and I sleep much better aboard than we do on the king size at home.....
