  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
52' MOTOR YACHT (1993 - 1996)
Does anyone have a PDF of the install instructions for Marquipt Step Plates. We have a set installed. We are attempting to remove but there appears to be something preventing removal other than the 6 visible screws. We want to ensure we are not missing any hidden screws or if someone possibly used 5200 to mount the plate to the deck. Appreciate any insights. Thank you!

These plates can leak at the screws , an amazing amount, this can ruin interior paneling.

If its 5200, try heat. That will soften it up.

Get a can of Debound it works very well. Just used it to get my portlights out.

I never had any luck with that stuff.

It takes time.
If you can reach the real edge of the glue, like a cancer, it does effect the glue. Sometimes it takes over night or longer. I use epoxy syringes to get it in the cracks. Again, you have to wet the real edge of the glue for it to penetrate into it.

Heat works almost instantly but if I can't heat it, I just pry it apart and then end up repairing the damage. Impatient, I guess.

I have a friend that heated a putty knife and slid it between the hull and the port light frames. The heat separated the 5200 and he went through it like butter.

The hot knife trick. That’s what Yachtsman Bill suggested to me to get the inner shim off the hull for my portlights.

I really wanted some of these things, I liked them when I saw them on other boats. I take it from all the comments that they're more trouble / cause leaks than they're worth?

No trouble at all. I used 4200 and screws for these. They had been in the glass case at Sam’s, Ed finally sold the to me last year. Chrome plated brass.

Very beautiful addition Dave!

Thank you, we get questions and compliments on them all the time.

Who’s gonna take on the challenge of making these for everyone?

Are these not available to purchase?

Could they be cnc machined?

Hi Sadey can I ask how much those cost? Are there more of them out there?
Thanks!

That was the only set. Ed had them in his garage for a long time then brought them into Sam’s to display. After a little badgering he sold them to me for maybe $400-500? Can’t remember exactly. After they were gone lots of people asked about them so I know he had regrets on the sale price, he told me so. I promised to keep them so they won’t go with Benedetto when we sell her. Sorry if one of you are the new owner.

Interesting. Maybe I should try to make some! Any chance next time you are on your boat you could take some pictures and maybe let me know what size they are?

I have been searching for a good Hatteras Logo file but haven't found one yet.
If anyone out there has a good pdf file or other image file I would really appreciate it.

I've been looking for things I could make to make a little side money, this could be a good place to start!

There is a guy on FB that makes custom logos for runabouts and stuff, he is 3D printing them.

I ordered a set for my little MFG Niagara, but, they certainly aren't as well done as the stainless Hatteras logo that I got from the guy on here that was making them awhile back.

There could be a market for those kind of things made out of stainless?

That's sort of what I was thinking.

On the material, I think Sadey said they were brass with Chrome plating.

I don't know if Stainless steel would be better or not. Stainless wouldn't have the possibility of peeling. I'm guessing Chrome would be shinier though.
