Well, despite owning my current boat for the past 18 months or so, I learned something new today, again. In lowering the dink (15' RIB) using the 1200 lb. extended boom Marquipt davit, the load level bubble went into the red zone and the valve (similar to a pressure relief valve) slowly lowered the dink without any electronic control. Not a good thing. So, I called Marquipt. According to Marquipt, this davit cannot perform a "deadlift" meaning that the angle between the water and the boom always needs to meet or exceed 30 degrees. In my case, I was trying to lower the dink as far away from the side of my boat as possible because I needed to clear the finger and get it into the water on the far side of the finger (read other slip). I guess in having the boom parallel to the water, it was functionally the same as a deadlift. Makes sense. Just curious whether anyone else has had a similar experience or was aware of this limitation?
