Spoke to Mario tonight. He left me a VM yesterday to say he was on his way. Tonight, he was somewhere in Norfolk Bay.

Boat is running great, the Chryslers pushing her at about 8 kts with about 1.2 mpg in fuel consumption.

Mrs. G is having a great time at the helm as Mario reprts she's had more wheel time than he has....(my kind of woman)!

He's planning on trying to post on his way down, but as soon as I get it figured out, he's going to feed me coordinates so I can post it during the day here, hopefully on Google Earth.

Another Hatt on the way South. Everyone say a prayer for a safe arrival, in time for CDR!

Yesterday evening's update at about 6:25pm find them about 17 miles from Norfolk. Having logged 139 Nautical Miles so far, on their way to Waterside Marina to tie up for the night.

38° 6'55.00"N
76°13'7.00"W

I'm still figuring out Google Earth and how to get his plots in from the numbers he's given me to the map, so these aren't exact, but should be very close.

He's hoping to find connectivity (and time) to post his complete logs, but meanwhile, I told him to keep calling in the updates and I would post them here.

It's good to be Mario this week!.... :D

Good update. I like the Google Earth annotation.

I've always dreamed of doing the "ditch". Looks like for now, I'll have to travel vicariously through Mario.

Well I plotted him on Capt voyager at 38 6' 55.00" 76 13' 7.00" he is almost at the Potomac river 56 miles from Norfolk.
So looking at the chart it agrees with the google  wish I could post it larger :(
Glad they are doing well :D

This is a very cool thread, with these graphics- thanks to all. I wish him well- we just did much of the same leg he's doing. It's been nice weather up here for boating, making me wish mine was still in the water.

My compliments to Dan and Ed on a great thread. Keep them coming. One day I may be able to return the favor and take a trip of my own.

Bob

Well I see "Google Earth" will be on my "things go do" tonight when I get home. That's a neat idea.

Google earth is a great tool, you can do a ton of stuff with it. for instance I've compiled info (points, links, pics, tips, ...) on all the anchorages, marinas, etc.. for biscayne bay and the keys (mostly upper key, not complete yet). I
m thinking of collecting data from others and expand it too... it's at www.sandbarhopper.com ...

Ed, why dont you save the positions in GE and upload the KMZ file on your server (you have a website i think)

I do, and am willing! But learning too! So far, I've had each plot save as a separate KMZ. I can save my own spots, but they're worthless to the rest of the world. I haven't figured out yet how to save just the set of spots I want....but I'll get there.

I'm swamped for the next couple of days, but if you know how, it would only take me a few minutes to put up a page on the site that we can just upload it to.

Got a call from 1st Mate Mario this AM. Good thing, I was getting worried.....

He's currently crossing Albermarle Sound, getting pretty close to the Hatt factory as you can see on the attached.

Mario reports that Yaisy will not give up the helm, and that he's doing the dishes now and enjoying the ride, so for here on out, I guess we'll refer to him as 1st mate instead of Captain.....

The boat is still doing great, running 8.9 knots. Mario says to tell everyone hello, and that he's going to post his logs to the thread eventually, maybe when he gets to port tonight.

Now, I have a Coast Guard search and rescue to call off!

it's easy... create a Folder in the places list, and move your various placemarks in that folder (drag them). Then right click on the folder and select Save As. that will create a KMZ file which you upload to your website.

no need to create a page, just post the link to the file...

i've been playing with GE, including overlaying marine charts, it's also very easy to do once you have the charts in image file format.

OK, what I didn't "get" was that you clicked on a folder to save just that folder....

Putting up a page was no problem....I put a bigger version of the image for those that don't want to mess with Google Earth directly, and the link to the KMZ file below the image.

I don't suppose he's going to go all the way up the Neuse just so the boat can do "old home week"...anyway it was born in High Point, not in NB, so it probably wouldn't recognize the factory. Glad he is making good progress and having a good time. He's had pretty good weather, so far.

Heck, I know it was built in High Point, so was mine, but It's tough to get the boat there, and no one is there to greet you anymore.

I'd run up the river for a plant tour, and maybe the chance to see some of the boats that they won't let riff-raff like us on at the boat show. But that's just me......

I hear that Mario has left the boat in Belhaven N.C. in order to go back home for a "work break". I hate it when work interrupts boating!

I'm surprised the "captain" isn't continuing the trip without him! :D

Well, assuming he can get back to the boat.....drastic measures are called for to get her home for CDR.

I'm thining straight line, a fuel bladder, 4 hour watches and he's only about 70 hours away! :D

GO MARIO GO MARIO YOU CAN MAKE IT :p let us know now if your not going to make it... well looks like we'll have extra fish and beer

Yep it's true. I had to leave the boat in Dowry Creek about 5 miles east of River front marina in Belhaven, NC. I got a call early yesterday that I had to come home and go to work. we got home around 1:00am this morning. Our ICW is postponed until at least next month. We've been having a wonderful time. The boat is running great. thanks to everyone for your support. Thank you Ed for allowing me to give you my position reports along the way. It's a good feeling to know others are watching out for us. ya know, just in case. I'm almost done with the up dating of our blog page. I'll post it tonight.

it looks like the 34 will miss the CDR, but We're not!

OK, so you flew back to Miami, to fly to where, Bogata? What marina is she in? I need to update these positions....

Also, am I spelling Captain Yaisy's name right? And what's the boat's name?
