  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
It is a sad day today. I just found out that Bohemia Bay Yacht Club had a covered dock roof collapse and sunk approz 30 boats. Among the casualties was past 1510 club's presidentJohn and Rosemary Gray's 53' "Ultimate Family Affair". If any of you know John and his boat, you know his boat was a true gem. Hopefully John and Rosemary will find a suitable replacement Hatteras.

If its a total, keep an eye peeled for parts for ALL of us would you please!! Still looking for handrail hardware amongst about 2 "brazillian" other parts LOL... ws

Saw the pictures on another boating site....Wasn't pretty to look at

I know John. We shared dockage at St Michaels many times. He kept a beautiful boat. I'm sure he's sick about this loss. I know I would be.

I do hope that no one was aboard any boat under there when the roof came down. I always fear for liveaboards in the Winter.

I was on that same dock at Bohemia, It was during the Winter of 2003 to meet the owner of another 53 Hatt that I was there to list for sale. There was a huge snow load on that roof then and the marina had temporary cables strung up with winches keeping the shed from racking over. It was leaning! I did not want to be on that dock and under that roof. I did what I had to do, and got the heck out of there pronto. I gotta tell you, it was spooky. There are/were a lot of beautifully kept yachts under that shed. A 55' Ocean SF there was showroom new, among many others.

The photos are heartbreaking.

I really don't understand these shed collapses.

I was assistant harbourmaster at a major marina in Vancouver, B.C., and we made sure the darn shelter roofs were shovelled off after a heavy snow, or snow and rain.

Maybe the snow came down too fast to shovel it off here? I dunno. Tragic.

At the peak it was coming down at 3-4" per hour.
