  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
Not Currently A Hatteras Owner
I live in WI and keep my 78' CPMY in Lighthouse Pt. FL. I have a yacht management company look after the boat while I am gone. They also prepare it for when I take the boat on trips. On a recent trip to the Exumas, I spent the first day and a half fixing things that were overlooked prior to departure. After spending years in the Army as a helicopter crewchief, I cant help but think that a checklist would be in order here. We lived by them in the Army. It kept us from forgetting things.

We got all the way to the Bahamas to find the windlass doesnt work. Why would they test it in the slip, right? Batteries were dry and had to be replaced. Double price in Nassau.

Has anyone put together a good checklist / maint. schedule that you like to use? Daily, weekly, monthly, etc?

If there isn't a copyright issue, I could copy and post the checklists in my owner's manual. Anyone know if this would be kosher?

Yes, if you have the original Hatt paperwork that came with the boat, there is a very extensive checklist there which would probably only need a few additions for equipment that was added later.

I must admit that I never actually USE a boat checklist... ;)

But I DID use them as an Army chopper pilot! :)

I scan them tomorrow and post. Check lists only or entire maintenance section?

I never thought of checking the manual. I have the original docs. I am not sure I would use a checklist myself if I was living on or maintaining the boat. But I do want to give the mgmt company a guide as to what I expect.

Yes, that's an excellent point - the fact that you are not there and rely on other folks to have the boat ready for your use when you arrive makes a checklist for them a really good idea!

As I said earlier, the oem checklist is pretty good but it won't cover anything that was added later and it doesn't cover any "domestic" items, like, "is the refrigerator working?"
