  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
Just developed a issue. I have 4 units on the 53MY with the Onan 15kw MDJF. They all work fine at dockside power.

When I run the generator, the Main Salon SFX Controller goes to the Low AC after a few minutes and the others run fine. I turn off the aft salon (new) and still the Low AC. As well, under shore powert
by BATT CHG light on the Panel is lit but not under the generator.

Ideas? I have not checked voltage on gen yet?

Also- still getting some water in front bilge, put in check valves, loops etc but sometime need to pump out 20 gals for no reason? some days none other it runs on manual for 30 sec ot more?

Thx

Kevin

Well the first thing to check is voltage... Both at the panel but also at the unit itself.t here maybe some corrosion or wiring issues which means that unit sees fewer volts than the others

After you reset it, do you still get low voltage? If not it could be that voltage drops when other compressor kicks in and that's enough to trigger low AC on that one. Start the other 3 first, wait till al the compressors have kicked in, and then turn it on.

One thing that I found very useful to keep an eye on things is having digital easy to read volt and amp meters where they can easily be seen. Not a small needle buried behind a door down low. On a 53, a good spot woudl be above the helm, or to simply wiring runs, to the right of the helm console by th he stairs. I Like blue seas meters as they have low and high alarms you can set. This way as soon as voltage drops, whether AC or DC! You know and take corrective action instead of waiting till your batteries are too low to run the heads...

I was finding a lot of water in my front bow from time to time for a long time... I finally realized the AC unit, which on my boat is mounted in the anchor locker, the tube that drains overboard was blocked so the water ended up in the bow bilge...
I just took the water hose, back flushed from the outside and now all is nice and dry and has been for over a year..
