  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
61' MOTOR YACHT (1980 - 1985)
Hi Folks,

Thanks for all the great advice I received from everyone in my prior post. This new 61' Hatt owner would like to locate a captain in Ft. Lauderdale with experience on a 61'; would also like him/her to over see some repairs while I am not there.

If anyone knows or has knowledge of a captain who is a trustworthy, personable/friendly, laid-back but knowledgeable with a 61' I would appreciate any referrals or suggestions. Many thanks!

Paul

I wish you were closer to NJ!!!!

On a more serious note, be very cautious with Captains. The owner of a big Viking I know recently fired his captain because of ficticious "repair" bills covering problems that never existed and work that was never done.

It's likely pretty easy for a few bad apples to get/make stationary and create billing themselves, or have a buddy at a Marina/reapair facility create and print the bill, then erase it so there is no record.

Good luck..

Yeah, there's all kinds of games that paid "captains" can play, especially if you're an absent owner. In my travels I've run across a few that really would raise the hair on the back of my neck - and if the owner was aware of what they were doing while the cat was away, they would be royally pissed.

If you are interested I know the sea tow captain for the Boca raton area he also captains and maintains a few boats larger than 61. If interested please advise. Gina Marie.

Captain Jim Turner. Cell phone is 954-205-4001. Used him several years ago to manage my boat and then to take it north. Will use him later this summer to train my son on the boat. Very knowledgeable, dependable and definitely not a "cowboy" like a lot of them. Probably in his mid 60's.

FYI met up with Capt. Bill this weekend at the Air and Sea show. He would be interested in the 61 if its a maintanence job rather than a full time on board captains job. Please advise if interested I will give you his numbers. Gina Marie.
