Hatteras Model
Not Currently A Hatteras Owner
Hello
I am looking for 46 Hatteras anybody have any knowledge of one coming on the market soon?

What vintage? West coast only?

maybe 1977 to 1984 location does not matter for the right boat

As you have probably seen on Yacht World already, there are a few pretty nice 46s out there. Having run a 1983 46 HP myself for the past 12 years, I would be particularly interested these two:

hello
i am looking for one with tower if possible and max 200,000, lots of boats for sale but after being large yacht capt for 23 years i know most are trashed.

Marlin tower ok or only full tuna towers?

Looks like a couple of 46s with towers under $200k out there. Condition - well I'm not sure at those prices.

Have you considered older or even select newer 45s? Here is an interesting bank repo that could be cleaned up:

That last one does look interesting...... the right deal at the right time sometimes works out well.... :)

I did look at some 45c, I am just little gunshy on the 8V92 (hand grenades).
and my wife would really like to have bunks for 6 with our kids, as for the tower a marlin would work. we would only us it in california or cabo, the rest of the time the boat would be in the NW.

Wish I was shopping for one of these, the last one especially is a good deal from what I can see. Doesn't look bad esp for a repo.
I am surprised the 46 w/ 8-92s doesn't go faster than that....would think it would cruise higher.

The 45 repo has 9500 hours on the engines and the generator needs replacing along with the hvac plus a new interior.

9500 hours?! For real? 8V92s set up at 475 in the ad - I thought that was a misprint. If there's REALLY 9500 hours on them then the 475 rating might be correct - that's why they have that kind of time on the ticker.

This boat had to be a charter fishing boat with that sort of time on the mains....

The generator and AC wouldn't bother me at that price. The mains being out, however, could change the equation. On the other hand that's the ASKING price - what's the bank willing to take? If its around $150 then a pair of majors, new genset and AC systems and you've got a hell of a boat at a nice price....

What's wrong with the interior? Ok, it needs carpet. The wood looks ok... or have the pictures been "strategically" taken? :)

They are 6v92 not 8v92s. By the time you do rebuilds and a new gen and hvac, carpet and did I mention the frig doesn't work and the exterior paint is not in the best shape you could buy a 45 thats already been done over and not have to go through the head of a refit much less the year or so to get it all done. Its a project.

You're telling me this guy got 9500 hours out of a set of 6V92s set up at 475?!

A fridge is under $200 - let's be real here. I replaced mine and that's what it cost. Yeah it was a bitch to get out but that was just a lot of grunting - no sawing things up and such.

Point being, its an '89 with the desireable single turbo motors. On the other hand, with 9500 hours on it every tab in the thing may be loose :D

I agree its a project, but at the right price a project is still worth looking at. There are people who would say MY boat is a project - although I'd disagree with them.....

I noticed something interesting in there - somebody solved my problem with suction side gear coolers. That boat's gear cooler and fuel cooler are coaxial and on the pressure side of the pump! That's a Detroit engine - not a Covington conversion. Detroit did NOT make the same mistake Covington did....... which means there IS a solution if you can find the right part number.

Now I've got a mission - if those are 6Vs, then that's a bolt-on - and resolves the raw water flow problems that all the older twin-turbo boats have with the other configuration.

If anyone else has this setup on THEIR boat (look at the picture here http://www.yachtworld.com/core/list...+Sport+Fisherman&photo_name=Photo+10&photo=10) drop me a note with some serial numbers off your motors - it would be a TREMENDOUS help......

This is kinda like finding the holy grail, to be honest.... :)

Actually it is a Covington conversion. They had a bunch of engines left over and made their own conversion to the fprward plan style. Look close at the piping for the turbo. It is jacketed stainless and not cast iron and look at the manifolds they are not the new style. Just overhauled a pair of these.

Ah, well, apparently they learned then - the gear cooler being on the suction side - well - it sucks. :D

I agree and the routing of the intake hose is no prize either. I will be back on the boat with the tandem coolers next week, if you still need the #s I will get them. Also why not use your existing coolers, bush them down to 2 inch and install in the length of hose between the exchanger and showerhead. The oil temp should still be ok. On the TI engines all the gears used the oil cooler in the bottom of the expansion tank where the coolant is much hotter than the rw discharge water. I believe the reason the TA engines used a rw cooled transcooler is because there was not enough capacity with the aftercooler and trans. I would call Brian at Acadian and ask about the proper oil temp for the gears. Some hose and fittings is all you would be out to try it. You may not need to spend $$$$ Dave

Well, the thing is, the cooling systems are marginal on these engines - but a lot of the problem is that trans cooler on the SUCTION side of the system.

Bushing it down is not a simple job. Among other things you run into trouble with mounting - that beast is HEAVY - and there's no good place to mount it outboard, which is where it would have to go. Service access there (for zincs, etc) would be nearly impossible as well.

I looked at moving it a couple of years ago to the exit side of the H/E and concluded that the existing gear oil cooler doesn't lend itself to that modification, as there's no mounting location available that would work and the plumbing issues that would arise are huge. That was what forced me to abandon that attempt.

Going to a combined fuel/gear cooler would not change the geometry (oil temps, etc) at all, since it would still be in front of the H/E as it is now. I've never had problems with condensation in the gear oil, which is the primary risk with the oil not getting "sufficiently hot".

I'd love to run it off the secondary core in the H/E tank - the core is present and has plugs in it - that's a 30 second thing to open up. BUT - I don't think I'll get away with it - Covington basically told me that I was playing with fire to attempt that, and that the problem wasn't so much main H/E capacity (the increased raw water flow should easily compensate for that issue) but rather gear oil temperature (the secondary core in there just isn't big enough to handle the job.)

hello,

Joe Vaccaro here, Any interest in a 41' sportfish, 1989, 6v92's with less than 75 hours since major overhaul. new granite countertop in galley shows very well. nice electronics outriggers.

My 1979 46' Hatt. may be available soon. She is located in Miami Florida.

hello
I might have some interest in a 41, can you send me photos and spec sheet?
thank you
Joe
