Well the eye of Hurricane Harvey will definitely coming to see us. It is so rare we get storms like this in our area. We will see how this goes.
 
News said it came ashore as a cat4 pretty nasty anyone down that way?
 
A lot of boats will be lost.... Hopefully that's all it will be.
 
Has anyone anyone heard from people in the area yet?

Looks like the corpus Christi, port laxaca, Aransas area took it hard.

We all wish them the best and after being hit Matthew last year we hope they were smart enough to bug out.
 
Update everyone, we took A direct hit from Harvey as a Cat 4 we had the full force with eye and all. Our 52 hat Perseverance sat at the end of the dock taking the full brunt of the force, I left her well secured yesterday afternoon a few hours before the storm really kicked up and I went home which is about 70 miles inland. Only go home and watch everything on Facebook and news to see what's going on down there. My wife and I spent all day watching every video posted and looking at every pic just trying to get a glimpse of our marina. Sadely every pic or video we found of the marina always didn't show our dock. Until this evening and finally a video showed our dock and we realized that our boat along with all of the sport fish boats at the end of that dock were gone. You talk about a horrible feeling. Ironically as my wife and I were reviewing the video to confirm that the boat was gone a friend of mine texted me that he saw our boat in a Facebook video. Apparently she and two of her neighbors pulled the pilings and floated around to be nestled against what's left of the fuel dock. She has some damage but she there, missing a dingy at this time but will be able to go down tomorrow to get all secured. Crazy we all had long lines and we didn't even get a high tidal surge but directly across the marina and up wind of the Of where our boat is Harvey leveled a 3 story condo building and everything around it. Our are is but prett hard but so far most of the reports are minimal on the injuries and fatalities so far. We pray that it will stay that way Brooks

Great to hear it's only minor damage to the boat. I hope all the people too stupid to leave are also found ok.
 
Great to hear you and your family are safe and damage to the boat may be minimal. It's tough to leave them but you did the smart thing. I know exactly how it feels to not know what's happening to your boat during a major storm. We had a 13ft surge during Sandy and I was pretty sure my boat would be a total loss. I was lucky and had minimal damage. The marina next to us was destroyed and dozens of boats sank and dozens more broke loose and floated off to nearby islands or ended up beached inland. Be safe and very careful when you get back down there.
 
We had to do the plan "b"of leaving her tied up but I felt like she was tied loose enough for storm surge but sadly the pilings but she is still tied to some of her pilings lol, I believe it was the shear force that did it it, the dock is completey gone. It was my first major hurricane to leave a boat tied up, just wish I didn't have to start with cat 4. We do have slot of damage in our area and the storm has been sitting in my county all day should also have record floods, going to make the call to insurance on Monday, she will need some work hopefully mainly cosmetic and minor repairs and refit. Never been down this road before, I bet it will be a fun one, just feel horrible for those that lost so much
 
There are drone videos of Rockport Tx. marinas etc. that are saddening. Dry stacks etc. destroyed. Boats piled up everywhere.
 
If you have BoatUS insurance, they will have a team down there ASAP, if the past is anything to judge by. They are pretty good about it, in named storms like this one. I hope the damage to your boat is minimal.
 
Glad you boat appear to be ok

This is like Katrina, where the damage happened after. Water is still rising, one of the tide station East of houston had risen 6' since last night at almost 10' over MHW!
 
Glad the boat is still floating but make sure you look hard for damage water infiltrates everywhere and it's mostly wind driven salt water. I ductape my fuel vents because I've heard of salt spray driven up into the tanks through the vents.
 
Great idea about taping the fuel vents. Never thought about it before. Hopefully I won't have to worry about it unless we get another Sandy storm here in NJ. Most of our club members at PPYC left their boats at their dock with lots of extra lines and fenders deployed as well as removing or securing anything on deck. We all faired very well but came within inches of losing our entire marina as we had a storm surge of at least 13 ft (I think it was closer to 14). Our marina is all on floating docks so a few more inches of tide and our docks will have floated away. We are installing new pilings as part of our ongoing maintenance and all the new pilings will be much taller in the future. Ironically, those folks that had their boats hauled for the storm had significant damage with many floating off their cradles and floating away to be sunk.

Many years ago when I was young and fearless (and dumb) we rode out a couple of hurricanes up some of the rivers near Panama City, FL. Absolutely not recommended unless you have a death wish. Boats can be replaced, people cannot. Keep your insurance paid up, secure your boat as well as possible then get out of town.

My brother rode it out in Houston. Says they were high and dry the whole time, power never went off. Said the water receeded some yesterday and last night but that they were going to be releasing some of the upstream dams today and they expected the water to rise throughout the day.

The fish camp he goes to lost a huge oak tree, fortunately it fell away from the building.
 
Friend that lives near Dickinson, Tx sent me this, still has a sense of humor after all the flooding.

My 50c was in Cove Harbor marina in Rockpot. Found it accross the harbor up against an oil barge. Bow lines still cleated off with snapped in half pilings attached. Three stern lines attched with ripped out dock cleats tied off on other ends. Spring line cleats ripped off the boat. Fired up the generator, plugged in the hooka rig, cleared lines from props, fired up the Detroits and drove her back to dock -whats left of it. Tuna tower and out riggers are history. Four windows blown out and some fiberglass damage. One tough boat. Tough times here and a lot of people helping each other. Except for the Govt. Federal Marshall shut down the one restaurant in town that was open. For price goughing -selling coffee for $1.50 a cup. The owner raised it to that from $1.00 to cover costs of two hour trips to buy propane for his grills and coffee makers. No electric, no water and not one business in the city open except for this doughnut shop selling breakfast sandwiches, doughnuts and coffee, and the Federal Gogoverment orders them to close.
