Lithium Jump Starters

I'm curious if these devices can be reliably used to minimize starting battery weight and expense. I would like to downsize from four 8D's to maybe four group 24's, with this guy onboard as a backup. IMHO........No. My experience with them is they are more trouble than they are worth. Did you read the one feedback report? He kinda said just that. We have the 8D's and they are a major league PIA as the batteries are mounted outboard of the engines and I can't even get my over size Butt in to service them. But it's way better than "Oh Crap what do we do now?"

When we repowered with Cats we also rewired the boat to 24 volt. For starting batteries we have a pair of 31's in series for each engine, the house bank is 4 x 29's in series and parallel. Anything beats messing with the 8d's.

Many trucks and buses use Group 31's for starting.
