  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
Not Currently A Hatteras Owner
I am trying to locate an old friend who was a licensed captain and lived and worked in the Gulf South, Bahamas and Florida. Is there a listing anywhere of captains? His name was Smith Brown and the last I heard he was living on a Hatt on the North Shore of Lake Pontchartrain.

Jimmy did you buy a boat?

Still waiting on mechanical....

Jimmy, CONGRATS on your retirement!!!

I remember Smith Brown. He had an old Hatteras 41DC named OLD HATT that he and his wife lived on for many years over in Oak Harbor Marina in Slidell, LA. The boat was for sale forever for too much money (I looked at it in the late 1990's), then the boat got totalled in Katrina so I assume he finally got his money out of it. I have not heard where he went since then.

Let me know if you need a reference for a good Detroit mechanic in the area to hire to look at that engine for you. From what I understand the owner of the boat nor the broker are going to spend any more money on it so it is all up to you if you want to move forward.

GOOD LUCK!!!

Byron, I worked with Smith for about 10 years until he retired in 1977. He was a really talented Television director at WWL, who chucked a lucrative career in favor of plans to sail his 32 foot Down Easter around the world. Interestingly on the first mile of the journey he ran aground outside Eden Isles. After that he bumped around the Carribean for a number of years, finally returning here to live on a "stinkpot." He is in Diamondhead now living in a condo. I have his contact info if you want it.

Glad to hear you found his contact info. I had looked at his 41DC before I bought my 41TC. I would see him occasionally when he would come to tie up in Madisonville or when I would go to Oak Harbor with our cruising club for a weekend.

Now that you have all this free time on your hands, I hope you will be spending more time at the beach on Billy's boat! :)
