I will be adding a linear actuator to lift the hatch for my genset room. It is easy to find a 12V linear actuator with an 18" stroke. However, I would also like to find one (or a suitable bracket) that will still permit me to open the hatch if, for some reason, the 12V source to power the actuator fails. Any suggestions?

This is an excellent question. I would speculate that it would be best accomplished in the bracket. Tiara has used linear actuators for lifting all sorts of stuff for years. Perhaps a Tiara guy knows how they handle this.

What flooring is on the hatch?if carpet, put in a small access plate in the hatch so you can reach in and remove the pin that secures the rod to the bracket.

It looks like that would allow you to lift the hatch manually - far enough to pop the pin. Should work for the intended purpose.

I spoke to my friend who owns a Tiara with a hatch lift. His ER has other access to get in there and pop the pin. Otherwise, his observation was that the battery that powers a single hatch access needs to be in a different compartment so it can be alternatively energized if power fails.

Right, because jackscrew motors and similar things never fail or jam. :D
