  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
70' COCKPIT MY (1988 - 1997)
I am pulling the boat in Jan. to freshen up the bottom paint. I stripped and painted the bottom three years ago and was going to install them then. I was so pissed at the yard for taking two months to do two weeks of work that I just wanted out of there! I reviewed the old posts here about them and was looking at Spurs ..then about $6k with labor and spacers at the time. Are they still the way to go? Thoughts please.
I have also seen deflectors of sorts in front of stabilizer fins on many trawlers. Has anyone tried them on a Hatt.? Designed to deflect floating line etc. to run down and off the fin vs go around the fin post. Comments...

I had the Spurs and they ended up getting loose and I took them off. I don't boat in Maine so I didn't really feel the need for them and when they started getting loose I took them off and have no regrets for Atleast 5 years now. But you may boat in a different area that may make the Spurs worth the initial expense and minor maintenance.

hi i installed a set of PIRANHA DUAL line cutters which go directly on the shafts next to the props i got them from ....R.E. Thomas Marine Hardware 207-422-6532.... they are just amazing they are custom made from one solid peace of Stainless Steel Block they are sharper then razor blades and you don't have to remove your props to install them they are WAY BETTER then Spurs ....oh yea and they only cost me about $1400 for the 2 unites for my 2.5" shafts....i still try to avoid the MINE FIELD...CRAB POTS lol.....but i don't worry anymore if i can't see them...

I had spurs on the 70 I used to run, every year they seemed to be shedding bits... too many pieces. After two or theee years and way too much $$ we took them off
