Hi All,

Long story so I won't burden you, well maybe with the short version.

In the spring I installed new starting bank batteries (4). My mate thought it would be a good idea to use a portable engine lift to lower them into the engine room. Wasn't a bad idea.

I was responsible for working the hydraulic arm. I was so intent on lifting one of the old batteries out that I kept pumping away without watching the top of the lift, and I put a tear in the headliner...

After many many many bad words (would have made my dad proud) I added the repair to the list. Well I'm almost ready to tackle it.

Has anyone had any luck in repairing a tear where the result looks reasonably unoticable ?

I have seen some decent patches, but they are patches. Is the rip in a place where you could put a small light fixture or similar item? Just a blank no wiring. Or maybe a teak hand hold that would look good and be functional.

How about using something like the tape used to patch sails. Cut a piece just larger than the tear, pass it through the hole and position it adhesive side down then push up the headliner. I've never done it but with some luck . . .

I cut off a small piece from a section that was folded over. Used cloth glue and put it over the
tear. It matched perfect.

I repaired a small tear (3/4" x 3/4" 90 degree tear) with clear silicone. I applied it sparingly and used a dental explorer tool to pull out the corner of the tear and get it into the silicone. Since it's small, it is an adequate repair.

I've had a few from rod tips. Thank god we got away from 7' trolling rods and went to stand ups
