  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
61' COCKPIT MY (1981 - 1985)
I had a look through a bunch of the old threads about this topic but could not find a specific answer to the question of which LED replacement bulbs work best with existing Hatteras lighting with dimmers. Anyone have an answer?

I have found that the 120 volt led’s need led compatible dimmers. I have no experience with 12 or 24 volt.

call marinebeam in charleston sc. they have what you need. do not order from the website if you have 32 volt.
those are 24volt, and will burn out quickly. save time and $$ on my mistake.

I’ve been using these successfully in the 32 volt sockets for years. Very pleased. Nice color.

Others tried it and strangely it worked for some and not for others. My suspicion is that where it doesn’t work, the fixtures may have the polarity reversed.

These aren’t sold in the local stores anymore, and I haven’t tried the current bulbs because none of mine has burned out. If you try a different bulb, make sure it says it’s dimmable. They don’t seem to care if they receive DC or AC current.

I got some wonderful LED bulbs from 12volt Monster. They are good to 38v. Normal screw base and put out massive white light. Lead time is 6 weeks, but well worth the wait!

Good to 36v

Here is a Canadian company that has the 32 volt LED globes. We have had them installed for four years. You need to ensure you get the correct lumens to match your AC LED globes. Their range has expanded greatly since we purchased ours.

FYI I had a less than satisfactory experience with wattalight. Shipping was slower than slow (almost a month) overpriced, and tracking was non existant. When I complained, they refunded the purchase price and shipping - which cost almost as much as the merchandise. Product arrived, finally, and didn't work for the intended fixture. They're off my list.

You could try Superbrightled.com. Their web site isn't the easiest but so far everything I've gotten from them has worked well- so far. Mind you, I have only 120vac and 12vdc on my boat.

Me being the electrical engineering genious that I am, I swapped my 110/12V halogen bulbs for these:

https://www.12vmonster.com/collecti...ght-bulb-gx4-g4-bi-pin-lamp?variant=253062319

For the most part, they've worked well for 3-4 years with on/off and dimmer switches. But, they need way less transformer than the halogen. I replaced a couple of burned out transformers and everything is great on those circuits (sometimes the biggest challenge is finding the transformer). But my heads, for example, have just three overhead lights. There, I had to leave one halogen bulb in place to draw enough juice to energize the circuit.* So now I have a lifetime supply of halogen bulbs for the three fixtures remaining on the boat. Life is good.

* It's advisable to consult with the boss before ordering to determine what light is best for the application of makeup--cool or warm.

After all the input it looks like the 12v Monster is the best option. Going to go ahead and order all new bulbs for all the 120v - 12v lights onboard. A lot of bulbs.
Thanks for the help.
Cheers, Rourke
