  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
58' LRC (1975 - 1981)
Stb genset went out this afternoon.
It was running fine, then threw a UF (under frequency) code. Lost power, I shut it down and cranked up the port genset.

After taking all loads off of the stb, I tried to restarting, to no avail. Getting power and the fuel pump is cycling. I've changed all three fuses running from the starter circuit (10a, 250v). When trying to start, I get the normal "CC1" code, but it doesn't crank or even begin to turn over. Battery tests fine and is charging offline from the genset.

ny assistance would be appreciated.

As you noted, be sure all fuses are ok and rotated in their fuse holders to insure they make good contact...no oxidation breaking the circuit.

If it died suddenly, akin to normal shutdown, likely it's an electrical related problem, such as a safety device shutdown; if it sputtered and ran erratically for say five or ten seconds or longer, more likely a lack of fuel issue.

I don't know Kohler's specifically, but in general I'd look at any shutdown relay that might disable the starter solenoid:

A simple test: short the starter solenoid...that is, bypass he starter solenoid terminals, maybe with a screwdriver, this applies battery directly to the starter....and be sure the starter turns the generator over normally....Of course be ready for a spark when you do...and don't touch the terminals by hand as the spark will be HOT.

If that works to activate the starter, find the control lead to the solenoid and trace it back to the control box...there will be a relay somewhere inside that is not activating when the start button is depressed.

Hi Jeff,

If you have a copy of the owners manual you can scan and email, I'll be glad to help you walk through the trouble shooting process. I do not have a copy of the wiring diagram, so trying to work through it without one would be just guessing. It shouldn't be too difficult to diagnose even over the phone. Or if you give me the model number the diagram may be available online.

Sorry for the delayed response. We cruised to Portsmouth yesterday and Deltaville today (never saw a drop of rain!).
Appears to be the starter relay circuit.

We're cruising again next weekend, so I had the yard order me a replacement and drop it in.

Thanks for the feedback and advice everyone.
