Hatteras Model
53' EXTENDED DECKHOUSE (1983 - 1988)
Boating friend in Duncan Bay Michigan is seriously looking at buying a 1998 57 McKinna Motor Yacht located in Hilton Head Island, SC. (YW# 4584-1810515)
I was on a McKinna once, but know nothing about them. Any comments? Two boats ago he had a Hatt .... so I wasted my sales pitch. She has 600HP MANS (poor reputation I believe) with 725hrs. Not my style of boat, but wondered if anyone has any knowledge of this boat.

Boat in Hilton Head is currently under contract and due to survey this coming Monday. Listing broker thinks its all but a done deal. Is your friend the buyer who has her under contract?

There is a 1999 57 in Annapolis that I have been aboard. She is in nice shape, powered by the smaller 450 Cummins engines. Ask is $429K. We made a low offer and learned that low $400's would buy her. Seller is not very motivated and plans to use the boat if she doesn't sell.

There's a 48 for sale in Jacksonville for $450K ask. I'm told that the only difference between the 57 and 48 is the platform. The interior is identical.

Other than that, I don't know anything.

Eric

My info is that the survey is a week from Monday. This 57 has the optional
length swim platform making OAL 62ft? With the low asking price of 369 I just wondered if there was "the rest of the story"?

Could be more to the story. But my bet is she has a motivated seller, doing what he needs to do to "off" a little known named Taiwan built euro style boat that needs a new home pronto.

FYI, This morning I was aboard a newly listed 48 McKinna here in Ft. Lauderdale. Axing price is $350K, 450 Cummins with under 500 hours on the meters, she needs some TLC mostly on the interior. This one also seems to have a motivated seller who is finished using her.

Aren't McKinna's always a little narrow for their length, compared to other boats?

To me they seem sortof typical of the now-so-popular Euro design. Not much space for their length in general- ala Azimut/Fairline/Viking-Princess/Sunseeker, etc. The McKinna 48/57 layout is quite similar to the domestic 53/57 Carver.

You guys with the wide beam Hatteras "mansions" are spoiled!

Narrow beam? Ya think? This is what a 57 McKinna looks like next to my 60C.

That boat is built so lightly, I'm afraid if I ever hit her backing in I'll crush her like an eggshell.
