  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
50' MOTOR YACHT (1964 - 1968)
We are making our maiden voyage (farther than a few miles offshore) to Key Largo, FL for Memorial Day weekend and will be at the Pilothouse Marina. I believe there are other Hatteras owners in Key Largo, if anyone knows of any please let us know. Thanks,Marcus & Michelle

We'll be leaving Miami late Thursday morning headed for Marathon. Might be a bit lumpy until later in weekend. Planning on inside route and pass through to Atlantic side at Angelfish Creek. Contemplated staying on inside entire way, but, just got new Prop Speed and don't want to tempt fate....

We came though the inside route from plantation up through barnes sound to biscayne bay. We kicked up tons of sand barely idling. Another 40 ish boat came through and left a big trail of sand stirred up. Sometimes I only saw 1 ft under the feel. I only draw 3.5 ft. There must have been a wind tide or something. If I had just put prop speed on it would have been burned off. I would take the outside if all possible.

Northerly winds, mostly in winter, will reduce depths in Florida bay. In normal conditions you should have 6' MLW all the way.

I ve always avoided angelfish and Caesar creeks, there are some shallow spots there too. If you're concerned about depth on the inside, just run outside from the cape florida , hawk channel is rarely bad at this time of the year

You'll enjoy Pilot House. Be sure to check their web site for the most up-to-date information on the entrance channel. Despite the above comments on the inside route, I'm sure you know that PH is off the Hawk Channel.

We are going outside, but inside the reef. Seas look decent getting better as we go south on Friday; even better for the trip back on Monday. I will double check entrance info with the dock master on the way down. Thanks for the "endorsement" of Pilothouse, we have been to KL a dozen or more time but this is our first trip by boat.

If you dine in the restaurant at Pilothouse, bring your boots. The cockroaches (Palmetto Bugs) there are some of the biggest I've ever seen and are everywhere in great numbers. They were crawling around our feet, across the bar where people were eating/drinking.... Yeah, I know, that's a Florida staple, but that restaurant that is perched over the water really makes for a perfect place for a heavy infestation. Been there once....that was enough. Once I saw how many there were, it was a very unpleasant evening sitting there on the tight-muscled defense. I jumped out of my chair screaming and running more than once.

Not my experience; we're regulars at PH's Glass Bottom Bar and have enjoyed each visit (we have our "Pilot's License"). Never had any sign of wildlife except for some of the regulars at the bar. Go and see for yourself, and tell Emanuel hello from us.

Bill,Emanuel said to tell you Hi! And for the record, no wildlife in the the PH bar except the locals, boat people and fish swimming under the glass panels!
