Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
Simple problem, the raw water belt has streached to the point it will no longer stay on the pulleys. I have a Kohler 9CCOZ diesel generator and the number on the belt is 1270. So off to NAPA I went, nope, cant help, two other auto shops, nope can't help. two marina stores, nope, can't help.. Emailed two Kohler dealers, nope, can't help without a stock number... Sent an email to Kohler, but that was yesterday (Saturday) so no reply yet. The pulley is a 3 bolt system with no way to tighten the belt.. Measures at 27" so thinking 26.5".. Confused on how something seemingly so simple has now become a major challenge

Did you bring the belt to the stores?

I've always been able to find a close match with the old one in hand.

Sometimes on those 3 bolt systems you adjust them by adding or subtracting shims that go on the back of the pulley. Remove 3bolts and see if there are any thin metal shims. John

Yup, took the belt in every place I went.... No shims or anything to adjust the belt. It's just three bolt hookup, no shims or anything exciting... Manual shows it being on a slide to adjust the tension, just like the altenator has..The belt is 8 yrs old, it was onboard when I bought the boat in 2000.

Thats the way the old VW bug alternator was. Add or remove shims. Probably no help in this scenario , but have not thought about that for many years.

Ya that's the motor I had with the shims, a Pathfinder VW diesel in one of my old race boats, the whole thing weighed 300 some pounds, with the manifold and tranny off 2 of us lifted it out of the boat for a rebuild. John

Try to get up with Roger Wetherington on this forum (rwetherington). He should be able to help you out.

Well. Stopped in Monday at a one man marine repair operation.... Took him almost 5 mins to locate the belt needed and ordered it.Came in yesterday, I put it on today. fits great and snug... Life is back to normal..

Save the part number and get a spare.
