Hatteras Model
40' DOUBLE CABIN-Series I (1986 - 1989)
Hi All,

My wife and i just moved aboard our Hatteras 40' aft cabin 1988 and now we are expecting. What a mess with trying to get rid of to much stuff and now the kid on the way. Any ideas of how to build a crib, etc..

Noel

Wow! Congratulations on all counts. That's going to be one lucky kid, growing up with a "yacht" for a home.

While I can't remember the experience, my family informed me that when I was born my father, being an ardent racing and cruising sailor, had built a crib for me that was gimballed so I could always sleep level no matter which way the boat pitched or heeled. Supposedly it worked very well, although I don't know if it would have as much value on a powerboat.

Best of luck with the new lifestyle and your little "future Hatt driver"! :)

Congratulations on both counts. I have the same boat and we got rid of all the salon furniture and put in a futon 2 rattan chairs at the counter and a set of nesting tables. The area next to the mirror and by the futon would be plenty big enough for a crib. There is plenty of room when the table goes. I envy your fantastic views. Ron

Mirror? no mirror in our saloon. I was thinking of building one in above the wife's drawers. BTW great views but we do rock a bit. Getting the eisenglass rivets fixed today. Noel

Noel, I have a 44' tricabin, not too different than your boat. When my daughter was young, I put her in the lower bunk of the V berth, with a bunk bed style gate slid over the verticle railing that holds the mattress in place. When she was really small, a couple pillows on each side of her ( she fit across the bed) kept her in place. She has grown up on boats and no problems. We had a strict rule with her, and now the granddaughter. She couldn't go on deck without her "boat coat" (life jacket) on. When they grow up with it, it is no big deal.

Congratulations ! If you check back to I believe late last fall in the Salt Water Sportsman magazine was a great picture of a refit for a baby. Small article but it was perfect for the newest mariner. ;)
