Hello tIM,

Since this thread is just information, the correct spelling is "hawse pipe."

Also, when rope is assigned a specific job, like holding the boat to a slip, it is spelled "Line".

Just trying to help.

Wow Jim, Tim starts off by saying he hasn't posted much due to his spelling and you come out of hiding as the grammar police! Where's the love? Good to see you're still around. Are you thinking of jumping back in or still doing the tuition thing?

Tim: I understood you perfectly, thank you for the information.

Jim: Seriously, does this make you feel better? Let's see, Tim's rope has only gone through the thing at the stern of the boat so it has not performed a task yet. Is it still a rope? You have line capitalized so is this a one word sentence? I don't see a period. What if the reason that Tim struggles with typing is because of an illness or physical handicap? Do we still feel better straightening him out even though he is just trying to be helpful? My spelling suks 2, so I beter stop triying to help peeple on this sight.

Tim, you go right ahead and don't change a thing. And let's hear about the ones made of bras. I am all ears.

AFAIK "rope" in marine parlance only refers to wire. All non metal materials are line, and then named based on their application. Unless they are of a miniature nature, then they are "small stuff". That's string to you landlubbers.

Oh, Sorry Jack, did not see this post until tonight.

Yeah, I only check in to HOF about once a month nowadays. I'll remain out of boating for a bit longer with son going to Mass Maritime Academy and daughter attending Northeastern University. Not much disposable income left for toys.

Plan is to move to the Del Ray Beach area next few years. Get a house with a canal slip and a 40 something aftcabin parked in the back.

It's all good.

Tim,

I don't know specifically if they have chrome on brass, but you might try Fastenal. They do have 316L stainless which might be better.

Ok time to fess up to all you guys and tell it like it is. Two years ago + i had a small stroke which effected some parts of me. Vision being one and hand to eye contact. Working with a star bit or hatteras squar bit is murder.Tying a fishing knot is almost impossible. But i have fished the outerbanks in the surf at night so much i can make a knot closing my eyes better than looking at it. I know it is not spelled corectely eaven after correcting my post 3 to four times. I just give up and post it any way.I am very sorry for yall reading my junk. But the worst is trying to back a trailer. But God has still let me try and trout fish one of my loves. Those bastards at the landing laugh at me on the other hand some offer to help.THIS WEB SITE HAS BEEN JUST LIKE THE BOAT LANDING THANKS TO THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE OFFER TO HELP KNOWING NOTHING DONE WITH THE CRYING. BRIGHTER SIDE GETTING BETTER.
It all came from snoring and holding my breath for a long time lack of oxygen. If you snor and hold your breath GET A SLEEP APNEY TEST......RIGHT FREEBIRD

Well, you could have fooled me as to having any sort of handicap, and we've spent a fair amount of time together. I never knew about the stroke thing but have always enjoyed your posts, regardless of whether or not you spell things correctly. I just figured you were a computard, like me, with some of it.

With that, I sincerely apologize if I've ever hurt your feelings by tYPING things like this, but I'm gonna keep on messing with you because I like you and enjoy your company. :)

Birds of a feather snore together.

That's right Tim, and I'll even share that I too have sleep apney and we have matching CPAP's. Seriously, getting my captain's license may very well have saved me from going through the same thing... or worse. If I don't show the coasties that I'm complying by using that CPAP all the time, they pull my ticket.

Anybody who snores really does need to have a sleep test, as it really can be deadly to leave it untreated if you do share our problem. Maybe we can even start our own club.

A plan for the improvement of spelling in the English language

By Mark Twain

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For example, in Year 1 that useless letter "c" would be dropped to be replased either by "k" or "s", and likewise "x" would no longer be part of the alphabet. The only kase in which "c" would be retained would be the "ch" formation, which will be dealt with later. Year 2 might reform "w" spelling, so that "which" and "one" would take the same konsonant, wile Year 3 might well abolish "y" replasing it with "i" and iear 4 might fiks the "g/j" anomali wonse and for all.

Generally, then, the improvement would kontinue iear bai iear with iear 5 doing awai with useless double konsonants, and iears 6-12 or so modifaiing vowlz and the rimeiniing voist and unvoist konsonants. Bai iear 15 or sou, it wud fainali bi posibl tu meik ius ov thi ridandant letez "c", "y" and "x"— bai now jast a memori in the maindz ov ould doderez —tu riplais "ch", "sh", and "th" rispektivili.

Fainali, xen, aafte sam 20 iers ov orxogrefkl riform, wi wud hev a lojikl, kohirnt speling in ius xrewawt xe Ingliy-spiking werld.

I figured tim was just posting on an iphone with one hand while fishing or driving the boat with the other lol

X2 - This may be a first but I agree with Freebird.

Tim, I too had no idea you were struggling with a handicap. I just thought you were a bad speller like me. For years I've smiled at the inverse capitalization of your screen name and thought nothing more of it.

You say you don't want an apology but I still feel like a bit of a dickhead. I guess the best we can do is try to maintain a sense of humor in dealing with and accepting our limitations.

i'm part of the snore club. best sleep i ever got was with the cpap machine

Honestly, I always thought tIM just didn't give a rat's @$$ about spelling or typing. It's really just not that important. And my wife the school teacher will tell you that spelling is nothing but visual memory and it's not an indication of intelligence.

I've always heard good things about tIM and as such I would hope that he understands that we do these things in jest and that it's nothing more than a sign of acceptance as a member of a great social group.
