We'll be in Jax in a couple of weeks and would like to visit some marinas that are open to liveaboards. Any suggestions?

Friends lived at beach marine and liked it. 2 restaurants and a nice group of liveaboards .

We've stayed at Beach Marine. It is quite nice but not very close to anything. You might consider Ortega Landing on the Ortega River off the St. Johns River south of Jacksonville. We stayed there a month. It's a very well kept marina with a nice pool, excellent laundry facilities, and about a ten minute walk to a major shopping center with department store, Publix Supermarket, several restaurants. West marine and another large marine supply store are also close by, as is the Huckins factory.
Lamb's Yacht Center is another good spot on the Ortega with excellent repair capability and coveredslips, but fewer amenities.

Ortega is my marina and has been for 4 years. Great place with pump outs at the dock and monthly parties. Very good rates. Many conveniences nearby and you are near downtown Jacksonville. You just have to travel from the IC about 17 miles on the St Johns river and then the Ortega river just below Jax. Many liveaboards there.

Art, just returned from Jax and had an opportunity to visit eight marinas. Your marina, Ortega, was our favorite. Also, we saw your boat. Thanks everyone for the referrals.

Sorry I missed you. We enjoy it here even if it is a long ways to the IC, but it is well protected and the staff are great. Have a great Christmas and New Year.

Art, I forgot to ask about general cruising in the area. Are there decent places nearby to cruise for a 2-3 day weekend or better yet, anchor up for a weekend? That seems to be the Admiral's biggest concern about leaving the Chesapeake Bay.

Mike, The St John's river is a great place for cruising and anchoring. Look at Active Captain. Don't miss Six Mile Creek among others.

Agree with Bob. Plus, you can looking at the cruising guide and it describes places to go for the entire 140+ miles the river runs. Many anchorages and "quaint" places.

At 64 degrees, we're not freezing.
