  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
40' DOUBLE CABIN-Series I (1986 - 1989)
Bought my boat in Daytona Beach. Took her out several times for up to 4 hrs at a time to get used to her and shake down to make sure she's running well. My wife and I are going back down the end of the month for a long weekend and figured we we would start the trip back up to N.C. Figured we would go to St. Augustine for the 1st night as we've never been there and I hear we shouldn't pass it up. 2nd day figure we'll just go to Jacksonville as we can get to the airport there pretty easily unless someone can recommend another choice. Cruise a 17 kts. Any recomendations for a marina in Jacksonville?

I'm sure you will hear from the Jacksonville contingent, Skip; we have never made the detour to go up there. We head straight to Fernandina Beach, the city marina is well run and right by the charming downtown (kind of a Florida version of downtown New Bern and it is about 30 minutes to JAX if that; there are shuttle services. Florida Petroleum there is a great place to fuel up.

Hey George, yea I agree with that now after looking at a chart, that's a better idea. What do you suggest in the Fernandina Beach area?

After rereading your post the above is a stupid question.

Your best bet it to bypass jacksonville and go straight to Fernanadina.. To get to downtown Jacksonville will take a 30 mile "side trip"...
But IF YOU put your boat at Ortega Landing.... You will be within a 1/2 mile of me (and where Capt Force stayed this past time) and you can buy me a bunch of beers...
And meeting me is well worth the trip.....

I think there are some decent places right off the ICW in Jax beach.

at Jax beach area you have Beach Marine or Palm Cove ...they are across from each other at the ICW and Beach Blvd.
Of the two, go to Beach marine... you have places to eat there and they have deep water..
Palm Cove is ALWAYS silted in... I know cuz we kept our boat there in 2000 and have taken boats in/out of there as recently as last Nov.... 3' at low tide.

My wife and I returned last night from a six day trip to Jax area. Took our Grady from Jax to St. Augustine for a three night stay at a B&B. I have been to St. Aug numerous times before this visit and have enjoyed it every time; thus, my first recommendtion would be to give St. Aug more than an overnight. For starters, the tavern across the street has 56 beers on tap... The Municipal Marina is the place to stay (across the street from downtown), but watch the current. We drive down on about a monthly basis as our son is stationed in Mayport so send me a PM if you need a ride or want to hear any marina or restaurant reommendations. Bill PS We meet earlier on the "Little Washington" waterfront over a year ago at a charity crab-picking.

Bill, I remember that well, your 53 tied up right in front of the tent. Still keep her here in lil Washington? Since we both work we'll just have a long weekend to get her up a few miles so I'll not have the time to stay in St Aug more than 1 night. Flying back and forth eats up a lot of diesel bucks. Thanks for the offer for rides etc, very N.C. of you. Charlie, won't be coming into Jax where you are however if you deciede to come out to the ICW I'll throw you a couple of cases as we go by. Have to be the cheap stuff however as the good stuff is heavier and sinks!

You also have the option of a mooring ball in St. Augustine, and the marina has a shuttle boat that will pick you up and drop you off. Much cheaper and less issue with the currents when docking.

Bob

Thanks Bob, sounds like a good idea.
